Dyslexia | Learning Disability
Dyslexia is also called as learning disability. Children with dyslexia have problems with reading, spelling words and sounds. Children with dyslexia have coordination problems. Difficulties faced by children with dyslexia can be observed from childhood. Dyslexia is the difficulty or inability of the child to understand the relationship between words, spellings, and sounds. These are the primary symptoms that can be noticed in a child at an early age, especially during the early school days and it is important to understand that no two dyslexic children display exactly the same symptoms. One should always remember that a certain dyslexic kid will not necessarily show each of the symptoms.
The major difficulties that they come across are the following:
  1. Extremely smart when you talk to them but faces difficulty to read or spell words. They find it very hard to understand and deal with numbers too.
  2. Children are Good in Creativity but Academics aspects they face difficulty, and these children mostly enjoy their drama, drawing and art classes. Coordination classes like model making, swimming, workouts and sports are far more interesting.
  3. Difficulty in Dealing with Text and Numbers: The fault lies with the neural links in their brain and therefore they find it difficult to deal with texts and numbers.
  4. The other noticeable difficulty is with regard to spelling. For example, they are likely to spell “does” as “dus”, “please” as “pleez”, or “search” as “search”.
  5. Backward writing: they spell the letters and numbers backward. They do it without being really aware of it. For instance, they are confused with the letters ‘b’ and ‘d’ and the number ‘9’ and ‘p’. This confusion is caused as these letters have the same mirror image.
  6. Are not sure about the left and right directions.
  7. These children find it very tough to solve numerical problems. This is because they find it difficult to understand sequencing and ordering.
  8. They also cannot organize themselves readily or in a smooth fashion. Often they are so disjointed in their behavior and presentation that it appears that they will never be able to pull themselves up.
  9. They find it extremely hard to follow instructions. When they are asked to follow a 2-3 step problem-solving method, they are just unable to comprehend it.
